3.Hallgrímskirkja

The unusual shape of Hallgrmskirkja is claimed to have been influenced by the mountains, glaciers, and basalt columns found throughout Iceland. It is one of the tallest buildings in Iceland, at 74.5 meters tall, and gives a panoramic view of Reykjavik from its hilltop location.

The current church, dedicated to the Icelandic poet Hallgrimur Petursson, was built between 1945 and 1986. A magnificent statue of the adventurer Leif Erikson stands in front of the cathedral. One of the city’s greatest attractions, Hallgrimskirkja, provides visitors stunning panoramic views from its tower.
