4. The Ghan
A journey on The Ghan, a trundling train treat that coasts from Darwin to Adelaide, is one of Australia’s most memorable vacation experiences. Geographers will notice that the railway goes from the very northern tip of Australia to the very southern tip, making The Ghan a one-of-a-kind way to view the heart of this amazing country. There isn’t much in the center of Australia (a lot of camels, by the way), but the vastness of it all is breathtaking. The Afghan Express is a truncated version of the route’s original name.
